The Coast Shapes the Ocean
Spring 2020
Personal look at the experience of depression through the combination of several short pieces and photographs into a compelling sequence. I designed The Coast Shapes the Ocean to visually reflect the emotional and mental clutter of my experience with depression. The text is intentionally difficult to read, with all the selected texts visible in the background of every spread. The eerie photography by Ville Kansanen peppered throughout the book further contributes to a sense of dread within the reader. I designed this book in Adobe InDesign for the class Expression, Structure, and Sequence: Typography.
